Today, Thorndale, like many homes in the Shenandoah Valley, stands in silent testimony to the lives and history of the people that settled, lived, and worked in the Valley. Thorndale represents a snippet of Virginia's rich history and is being preserved for future generations.
Working with Massey Maxwell Associates in Strasburg, Virginia for over two years, a detailed analysis of the home was completed and the application process for placement on the Virginia Landmarks Register was completed. This analysis involved a detailed assessment and identification of Thorndale's construction materials and history to better understand its place in local, state, and national history. As a result of this effort, on June 16, 2016 Thorndale Farm was recognized for its architectural and military significance and was placed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and on August 15, 2016, The National Register of Historic Places.
Thorndale continues to undergo restoration projects in various stages to preserve its architectural and historic significance for future generations.
